Storm windows

The cheapest and easiest upgrade for energy wasteful windows is to install storm windows. Storm windows are installed on the outside of existing windows.

Storm windows cut down on conductive heat losses and gains, depending on the season, by impeding air infiltration and by providing an airspace between inner and outer panes of glass. High-performance storm windows are also suitable for noise reduction.

When you select your storm windows, you should make sure the top and bottom sashes meet at the same point as those on the window they'll cover. Today, most people who install storm windows choose triple-track aluminum combination units, with movable sashes and screens all in one package.
